Professor Dawn Brooker Masterclass Tour 2020

A message from Dementia Australia:
In the interests of public safety and that of our clients, staff and supporters, we have cancelled the Professor Dawn Brooker Masterclass Tour due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

We are delighted to announce that Dawn has agreed to be both a keynote speaker for the symposium and to run a masterclass tour in 5 capital cities across Australia.

In November 2019, Dawn was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Journal of Dementia Care in the UK.  This reflected the significant contribution she has made to advancing person-centred care for people living with dementia in the UK and globally.

She was given editing responsibility of the book ‘Dementia Reconsidered, Revisited: The person still comes first’ originally written by the late Tom Kittwood. The book is considered by many to be the most authoritative work on person-centred dementia care.

Beginning as a clinical psychologist Dawn went on to develop the internationally recognised VIPS Framework. The 'VIPS' framework developed by Dawn sums up the four key elements in Kitwood's philosophy of person-centred care for people living with dementia as: Values, Individualised approach, Perspective of the person living with dementia and Social environment. There are six indicators for each element.

The masterclass is an interactive half day workshop. Participants will work through a range of exercises to assist them to apply the VIPS framework in reflecting upon how person centred their organisation is and identifying areas of strength and those requiring development. All participants will receive a workbook as well as having access to ask scenario based questions of Dawn.

These practical masterclasses are specifically run for managers and healthcare professionals responsible for the implementation of the new Aged Care Quality Standards. If your agency is either about to or currently driving a major change agenda then attending this masterclass is a must.

A maximum of 60 places per masterclass will be made available. The limited numbers are to ensure an interactive environment and opportunity for meaningful dialogue regarding the process of implementation.

Which event is right for you?

If you are leading a major reform agenda in your organisation or at a broader sector level and working towards the integration of dementia care as a key strategy in your delivery of quality care then you need to be at the symposium.

If you have an implementer role, will be overseeing service delivery, are developing processes and training for your facility then attending the masterclass will set you up for success.

Both events will qualify for CPD points.
