Guidelines for the early detection of prostate cancer: the evidence behind the recommendations

Associate Professor David Smith is epidemiologist and health services researcher. He is Interim Deputy Director of the Daffodil Centre, a joint venture between the University of Sydney and Cancer Council NSW and the lead researcher in the Prostate Cancer Research stream at the Daffodil Centre. He has an interest and expertise in prostate cancer. His work involves understanding more about the causes of cancers, effective screening and early detection, treatment patterns and survivorship. He led the team providing the technical services for the 2025 update of prostate cancer testing guidelines in Australia.

Dr Juliette Cotte is a French urologist currently completing a robotic surgery fellowship at the Institute of Academic Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. She trained at Sorbonne University in Paris, specialising in urology with a strong focus on minimally invasive and oncological surgery. Prior to her current position, Dr Cotte completed a fellowship in both neuro-urology and urologic oncology at Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, where she also received training in robotic surgery.

Russell Briggs is a registered nurse with 25 years’ experience. He has worked in health services both nationally and internationally and has experience in administration and management positions. Since 2018 Russell has been working in the field of Prostate Cancer initially as a Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse in a public health service before joining Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia in the role of General Manager, Nursing program where he helps run a national specialist nursing program. Russell is currently studying a PhD exploring the unmet need of men undertaking active surveillance within the first 12 months following diagnosis.

Why What and How: Genomics for prostate cancer patients

Jane has been working as a GP in Melbourne for over 30 years. She has a special interest in seeing men with prostate cancer and managing and monitoring the side effects to ADT . Jane helps men with the challenges of living with prostate cancer diagnosis as part of a multidisciplinary prostate cancer survivorship clinic at the Australian Prostate Centre. Jane also performs pretest counselling and sample collection for men referred to her for germline genomic testing for prostate cancer.

Evie is a Urology NP in Victoria, working in regional public, and metropolitan private practice. She has been specialising in Urology since 2012 and completed post graduate studies in urology and continence nursing, intimacy and prostate cancer for couples, and a Masters of Nurse Practitioner. She facilitates several nurse led clinics and her main area of clinical interest is prostate cancer; focusing on urology oncology surveillance and sexual dysfunction to try and optimise patient outcomes. She is a co convenor for the Asia Pacific Prostate Cancer conference, a prior committee member of ANZUNS Victoria, working on research in sexual dysfunction and prostate cancer and is currently expanding her scope of practice learning how to perform transperineal prostate biopsies in Regional Victoria.
